Can occasionally make Luke laugh. Looking forward to Easter Bunny bringing treats. Likes to pick things up with her toes (like Daddy). Can now distinguish boys vs. girls, but still has trouble with pronouns (just like Elmo). Knows her 3rd birthday is May 28th. Finally got the toy umbrella she has been asking for. Loves it! See pics in gallery. Big setback in potty training - bout of constipation causes pain & fear. Back to diapers until situation softens. Simple pleasure - peeling bananas by herself. Asking questions "what is that?" and "what is it for?" particularly when Mommy is changing Luke's diaper (parents need to huddle to decide extent of answers to be provided).

Yellow Letter Day: Big potty breakthrough! Often spends entire day wearing big kid underwear and has few accidents. Has long been able to identify shapes, but now can explain number of sides & corners in each. Joined mommy in tours of several pre-schools, in anticipation of September enrollment. Likes her boo-boos kissed. Can articulate emotions ("Gracie is sad/angry/happy"). Went to Long Beach Acquarium with Omi & Opi. Loved it! Now reads brochure every day and can identify myriad sea creatures.

|
Well check - height 37", weight 30.5 lbs. First doctor visit without screaming! (earned her lollipop today). Favorite thing to do is look at photo cards saved from Christmas and identify all 100+ people. Phase of being disinterested in books is over. Now loves every book in sight. Memorizes dialogue from books and can "read" some books by herself. Getting used to having Luke around. Asks about him when he isn't in the room, shares toys (on her terms) with him. Still not too interested in potty. Starting to pretend in her play. She can recognize patterns and answer "what comes next?". For her age, Grace is a terrific eater. Likes nearly everything and seems to really enjoy mealtime, particularly dining out with Mommy.

Asks "Where'd mommy/daddy go" when either is out of sight. Graduated from high chair to booster chair. Becoming slightly interested in potty training, but results are hit & miss (literally). Jealousy causes acting out & more time outs, which she doesn't like. Developing many fears, particularly of men who are not daddy or Opi (daddy hopes this goes away soon but returns when she is 15).

Loved Christmas, exclaimed "that's a lot of presents" over and over when she first encountered the results of Santa's visit.

Excited for Santa to come, saying "Santa brings presents to you." Loves for Daddy to swing her high "in the sky." Has become Daddy's personal trainer, assisting with pushups (riding on his back), situps (sitting on his knees) and jumping jacks (jumping around like crazy). Folds hands every night to say "God Bless" prayers and for grace at dinner. Does the Sign of the Cross afterwards. LOVES her snail puzzle from Grandma Friedl. Starting beginning reading books, identifying simple words like Mat, Sam, dog & cat. Says "oh wow" often. Eager to 'show Daddy' everything.

Went to Omi & Opi's for an entire week during Luke's stay in the hospital. She had a blast, but Mommy & Daddy really missed her. Omi & Opi had a blast, too, but needed a vacation to recuperate. Says "spill up" instead of "spit up." Exclaims "that's really tasty" when she likes something. Learning German words in books from Opi. (cue for Daddy to start studying German vocabulary). Using lots of adjectives, such as beautiful, silly, big, gorgeous, pretty, little. Can repeat anything you say to her. Has learned where her brain, heart, heel, kidneys & wrist are.

Points to her throat, gestures up and down and announces "esophagus." (what other body parts is Opi teaching her?). She is amazing with directions - identifies landmarks and proclaims where she thinks she is headed. Learning to play hide-and-seek, mostly with Omi. Loves to play rough with Daddy by pouncing on him unannounced. Uses "the more" when she means "another", as in "Mommy, may I have the more cookie please?" Loves to watch TV in "the bucket", which is formed by Daddy's legs on the couch. Asks, "What are you saying about?" often. Getting curls at the end of her hair.

Can count to 39. Insists "Gracie do it" for many things. First attempts at discipline meet with mixed results, "timeout is fun" is not intended reaction. Greets brother with hearty "Hi Lukey Boy" every morning. Tries to be helpful - puts Luke's binky or bottle into his mouth whether he wants it or not. Doesn't like to share daddy with brother, shouting "give it to Mommy" whenever daddy is holding Luke.

Started a dance class. Says "good eater" when finished eating. Loves to launch herself into daddy's arms. Likes to sing "ABC" and "Twinkle Twinkle". Laughs at Lukey's noises. Says "It's kicking" whenever Luke kicks legs.
Also, "Lukey haves a poo poo" when mommy changes his dirty diaper. Uses manners, asking "may I have the cookie (or whatever)," before helping herself to what she wants. Does alphabet puzzle and exclaims "I is for bug" instead of insect. Also says "Oh Lukey, please stop whining" when her brother is crying.

Marches into a room and says "Hi Mommy, How are you doing?" and then "be right back" when she leaves. Also announces "It's fun at ___" the park, the pool, whatever. Learning how to undress herself. Likes to try things, "Gracie do it" shows her can-do attitude. Opens fridge, browses and says "hmm. let's see have...Milk" (or whatever she spies that she wants). Will exclaim "deee-licious" during dinner when she likes something. Favorite game outside is "playsball", which is a combo of teeball and chaos.

Not too much jealous behavior directed towards Luke, but is acting out a bit to Mommy. Gets her first timeout. Bigtime Daddy's girl these days. Becoming opinionated about food for the first time. Still a good eater, but now insists on choosing.

Was told her last name for the first time. When asked if she could say Friedl, she said, "Friedl, F-R-I-E-D-L," and then proceeded to say her phone number. Mommy & Daddy are floored, and then quickly try to think of other things she might have overheard.

Loves to play with Mommy's makeup. Terrified of doctor visits. Often says "thankyouwelcome" for things she receives. Calls "bye bye. Love you" to strangers exiting elevators. Tried soup for the first time. Liked it, and promptly announced, "I like thoup" to all present. Now says "oh my goodness sakes." Really loves to make towers with her legos. Understands taking turns & sharing, but doesn't always do them. Loves to water plants with watering cans. Finally taking a little interest in the new sibling that is about to arrive.

Pretty good at saying "please" but needs work at "thank you." Says "bite it" when she wants to taste something. Says "2-1-beep" when microwave finishes. When put into her crib, she says, "good night. I love you."

Can do a somersault. Tries to turn everything into a slide. Loves to jump, and she will do it anytime, anywhere. Getting a sense of humor and will giggle "funny" when things tickle her. Says "tada" when microwave beeps. A good eater, she announces "like it!" when she likes something. Imitates Daddy making the Sign of the Cross in church. Loves her potty books but not so interested in the actual potty. Exclaims "I did it!" when successful at something.

Says "Daddy. Work. (see him) Later" during the day. Likes to spin until dizzy. Calls out colors of stoplights. Presses keys on keyboard, then picks up telephone and says "oh?" (just like Daddy). Vocabulary growing daily; starting to put words together. Can throw a major tantrum. Getting more cuddly. Mommy & Daddy like this stage, except for the tantrum part.

Recites entire alphabet in order. Very attached to Mommy & Daddy now. Gets very scared of strangers. When she fills her diaper, she tells mommy to "see" and turns around for her to look. Time to get her a potty. Says "hungry" when she wants to eat. Names all the items in the sky: sun, moon, clouds, rainbow, etc. Says "oh no!" when something falls. Says "Grace" sternly to herself when she approaches something she shouldn't touch. Getting successful with fork & spoon.

Puts numbers 1 and 2 from her puzzle to make a 12. Likes to hide in corners and climb into small spaces. Has figured how to fit into toybox, but not into tupperware. Says "bless you" when someone sneezes. Can catch & kick a ball. Signs and says "help you" when she wants help. Points to iPod and exlaims "boizu" (music). Holds dolls over shoulder, pats back (hard) and says "oh fweet."

Counts to 20. Did Graco print ad with Mommy. Plays more independently. Took first International trip to Mexico - loved the pool, hated the beach. Enjoyed Christmas but didn't fully understand the gifts. Scared of Santa this year. Enjoys stacking and counting things. Vocabulary growing, but doesn't put two words together. Loves watching videos of cousin Josh. Looks in the mirror and exclaims "cute!".

Dressed as butterfly for Halloween and went trick-or-treating. Kisses the phone when someone talks to her. Has learned how to kick - balls, block towers, etc. Has mastered colors. Does movements for favorite songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, etc.)

Masters letters, numbers (1-10) and shapes. Becoming more affectionate - gives lots of hugs & kisses. Sometimes calls herself "gigi." Knows names of all Sesame Street characters. Reads letters and numbers like crazy now - signs, trucks, t-shirts, whatever.

When she meets someone, she shows off by telling them something she knows, like pointing to her nose and saying, "nose." Goes to first gym class at Gymboree - loves it. Enjoys stacking blocks and then knocking them down. Loves to stop and smell the flowers - even when in a book. Hair is finally growing. Starting to learn letters, numbers, shapes & colors.

Vocabulary growing rapidly. Likes to show off by intentionally falling down and exclaimng "ah boo" (which means "aaah boom"). When she sees a towel, she says "owl, hoo hoo." Getting better at catching a ball. Points to her teeth and says "tee" when she wants to brush her teeth. Has learned signs for help, dirty, all done, please & thank you.

New favorite word is "no" together with vigorous head shaking. Knows all animals in her animal puzzles and can make their sounds. "Goodnight Moon" is favorite bedtime book (if it is read to her during the day, she says "no no, night night"). Calls her aunt Lizzie "Nini." Runs to high chair when she wants to eat. Loves to sit in boxes or other small spaces. Likes hats. Loves to read - "book read" sounds like "boo bee." Says "nigh nigh" when tired.

Learns how to call grandparents Glassco by name - "Omi" is "mmm-me" & "Opi" is "mmm-pee." She has been taking things out for some time, but now can put them away. Discontinued milk from bottle. Transition to sippy cup for milk was tough. Says "baby" when she sees a baby (including herself). Went to the beach first time. Has figured out how to open doors and is getting good at climbing.

Landed role in Country Crock commercial to be shot on July 26. Rode carousel at the mall and shouted "neigh neigh" the whole time. Has discovered how to spin in a circle until she gets dizzy and falls down.

Brushes Daddy's hair with her hairbrush. Trying to figure out climbing. Touched lamp cord, looked at Mommy and said, "no no." Waves and blows kisses to everyone. When asked to "put your binky in the bed," she pops it out of her mouth, drops it into the crib and waves bye-bye. Went to Ohio for Uncle Alan's wedding. Called Grandpa Friedl "papa" and can say "good girl" probably because she hears it a lot.

Had fun staying with Omi & Opi for two nights. Loves crawling under and through things. Likes to 'feed' Mommy & Daddy her food. Has figured out how to open things fastened with velcro. Sings "e-i-e-i-o" when her favorite song is playing. Plops herself down in Mommy or Daddy's lap when she wants to read a book.
